Class of '77 Book Discussion with author Jane Mayer '77, Dark Money: The Hidden History of the Billionaires Behind the Rise of the Radical Right

In this social media era of 140 characters, “Like” buttons, and posts that instantly disappear, the value of the in-depth, intellectual experience of books becomes more and more deeply appreciated.  At this year’s 40th  Reunion, we are launching what we hope will be a new class tradition:  A Class ’77 Book Discussion where we read a book before the Reunion and join together for an in-depth discussion at our Reunion.

We are honored to invite you to join one of the Class of 77’s well-renowned, prize winning authors Jane Mayer for a discussion of her 2016 book Dark MoneyThe Hidden History of the Billionaires Behind the Rise of the Radical Right

The book is based on decades of reporting from Washington for the Wall Street Journal and the New Yorker Magazine about the influence of money on politics, and we invite a broad range of perspectives on issues raised in the book—expecting nothing less from such a talented and intellectually diverse group of classmates.  In order to facilitate the discussion, Jane will be joined by classmates who have had career experiences in politics.

Dark Money, which is Jane’s fourth best-seller on politics, was named one of The New York Times’ Top 10 Books of the Year and is a finalist for the New York Public Library’s Helen Bernstein Book Award for Excellence in Journalism, the National Book Critics Circle Award, the PEN/Jean Smith Book Prize, the J. Anthony Lukas Book Prize, and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize.
